Matthew Schaap - Freshman Matthew is a first
year high school cross country runner. Son of Paul and Lori
Schaap.

As a freshman, Matthew brings many years of running experience
including many years of road racing and summer track. He may
have run in the most amount of high pressure and demanding races
of anyone on the team. His previous race experience and his determination
will help him to have a great year this year. In Matthew's season
opener he ran 6th for our team with a time of 18:21. Matthew continued
to have major break throughs in his second race where he cut off over
one minute. Matthew earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational
by placing 11th with a time of 17:18 in the Varsity race. He placed
3rd for team at this meet. He ran in the 17s again and placed 3rd
overall at the Pontiac quad. Matthew medaled at the
Springfield Invitational in the freshman race by placing 4th. He
made his way into our team's top ten fastest freshman ever list at the
Charleston Invitational, the Springfield Invitational, the
Peoria Notre Dame Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational, Olympia FS Invitational,
U-High Inviational, and Metamora Invitational. Matthew
worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country
Leader list in September and October. Matthew ran a 16:58 at the
Prairie Central meet. Matthew went on to run 2nd for the team and
run a personal best of 16:49 at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. Matthew
earned a medal at the Olympia FS Invitational by placing 3rd. Matthew
ran in the 16's again at conference with a time of 16:54. Matthew represented
the team well at both the Regional and Sectional meet. He helped push
the team to its highest finish as a team since becoming double A. |
