Meet Summaries
Mahomet Meet:
Mahomet raced
2 State ranked teams in our first meet. U-High of Normal and Bloomington
both showed how strong their programs are at our meet. Mahomet placed
2nd in the 5 team meet behind U-High. Five of our six captains led
the team. Captains: Henry Wolf (senior) ran a 16:55, Lucas Prather (sophomore)
ran a 17:00, John Butcher (sophomore) ran a 17:03, Elijah Johnson (sophomore)
ran a 17:20, Caleb Johnson (senior) ran a 17:52 as our top 5 runners. I credit their hard work and dedication to their running
in the off-season for their successful start. Our sixth captain, Dan Lewis (sophomore) improved over 6
minutes from last year at this time. Dan Lewis was last for our team
in this meet last year. Dan was one of only two runners that did not
earn enough varsity points to letter last year. Most kids nowadays
would quit if they had been in his same position, but not Dan. Dan
set his mind on being the best runner he could be. He ran over 400
miles this past summer and earned his spot as a captain of our team. Most
runners improve about 30 seconds to a minute from one year to the next. Dan
improved 6 minutes and 18 seconds. Returning letterman, Alex Williams,
Dale Donoho, Evan Forbes, and Mayand Vakil also showed significant improvement
in their times from one year ago at this same meet. Our first year
runners represented our team well and we feel very fortunate that they joined
our team.

open race. In the varsity race, all seven of the Mahomet runners earned
a medal. Caleb Johnson (Senior) 22nd, Elijah Johnson (Sophomore) 18th,

for some, but not all of this improvement. We had 2 freshmen (Jonathan

2nd in our 8 team conference. It appeared to be one of the tougest conference
meets in the past 2 decades. Normal U-High ranked #1 in the State earned

15. Our boys took the next four spots. John Prillaman, Lucas

Regional:
The boys placed
4th behind #1 State ranked U-High, #20 State ranked Morton, and Bloomington.
The course was extremely wet and under 3 to 4 inches of water in certain
spots on the course. As a result the times were slow. Despite
that Caleb Johnson ran a lifetime personal best of 17:19. Lucas Prather placed
9th placing him on the Regional top 10 finishers
list.

Sectional:
This was the 2nd
most amount of rain our State has had in the month of October in the last
100 years. It caused for a very wet and muddy course which explains
why all the times were between 60-90 seconds slower than normal. The
winners of the race were 14 minute runners, yet no one broke 16:00 on this
short 2.95 course at Sectional. The team trained hard all year to have
our chance at Sectional. Unfortunately, the week of Sectional Henry
Wolf was both injured and sick. He came to school on Monday with crutches
for severe shin splints. He came to school Tuesday with the flu and
stayed home one day that week to give his body a chance to recover.
We held him out of running until Friday to give him a fighting chance to
run, but he could still barely walk Saturday morning. Henry Wolf gave
everything he had to try to run Saturday and we have the greatest respect
for him giving his all to his teammates. We ended up running just 6
runners at Sectional. Our lead runner Lucas Prather placed 20th overall.
He missed qualifying for State by 5 seconds/2 places.
