Alex Williams - Senior

Alex is a forth year high school cross country runner and a three year returning letterman.   Son of Doyle and Melissa Williams.
As a freshman, he joined us with experience as he ran at St. Matthews which had a very successful team.  Alex was dedicated to his running this summer and led the team by example.  He has great team spirit and is always positive.  Alex was one of only four of our runners to run a personal best at the Peoria Invitational.   Alex ran a personal best in most of his last meets.  He ended up running a personal best of 20:38 as a freshman.  Alex earned his first varsity letter as a freshman.
As a sophomore, Alex came out physically stronger and more determined.  He is one of the vocal leaders and encouragers of the team.
Alex earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing 15th in the open race.  Alex continues to drastically improve.  During the first half of the season he ran a personal best most meets by cutting off 30 seconds a meet.  By the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational he was already running life time bests. Alex ran in the top 5 for our team at the Fresh/Soph East Peoria Invitational. He earned a spot in our all time sophomore list at the East Peoria Invitational.  Alex worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leader list in September and October.  Alex was one of only 3 runners to run a personal best at the U-High Invitational.  Alex ran a lifetime best at the conference meet again this year with a time of 19:41. He improved another 57 seconds this year over his last year's time.
As a junior, Alex entered the season taller, stronger and more experienced than ever.  In early season workouts he has made major improvements and break throughs from last year.  He made some excellent efforts to lead the team in numerous reps of our dreaded one hour of 400's workout.  In Alex's season opener he impressed the coaches and fans with his great determination on the hills of the course as he flew by his opponents that struggled on the grueling hill.  Alex improved over 1 minute and 11 seconds at the Pontiac quad meet to run a time of 20:29.  Alex ran a 20:00 at the Prairie Central meet.  Alex went on to run another personal best by over 19 seconds at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational with a time of 19:41.  Alex ran a personal best at Olympia with a time of 18:29.  Alex earned a medal at the Olympia Invitational by placing 7th.  He earned his way onto our top 10 junior list at the Olympia Invitational and Metamora Invitational.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  He ran a 3 mile personal best at the U-High Invitational where he placed 6th in the open with a time of 18:29.  At his final race of the season, a U-High runner's mother made a point to walk a half mile to our team's camp to let me know how much sportsmanship Alex Williams has.  Alex and a couple of his teammates stayed on the course for an extra ten minutes after our last runner ran by during the race to cheer on the remaining runners.  The U-High parent said it was so inspirational to have seen this sportsmanship from Alex and his teammates to cheer for the opposing teams.  She also noted that she had seen him and a couple teammates at a previous meet group up and run the last ten minutes with the slowest runner from another team at the Olympia Invitational.  This is a true testament to Alex's strong character.
As a senior, Alex came out strong.  He has drastically improved his time.  He earned a spot on our team's 10 fastest senior list at the Charleston Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational
, and the Metamora Invitational.  He was meet champion at the Charleston Invitational open race by running a time of 17:45.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September and October.  He is ranked #12 on out most improved over a career list with a 4:59 improvement.  Alex finished his senior year by winning the sportsmanship award.
