Dan Lewis - Junior

Dan is a third year high school cross country runner and returning letterman. Son of Tim and Kim Lewis.
As a freshman, Dan comes into the season with two years of cross country running behind him.  He made a consistent effort to train this summer and is already running workouts that many upperclassman couldn't handle in years past.  His early season workout times continue to drastically improve.  If Dan continues to give it his all, he will surprise a lot of his former junior high teammates and coaches with how strong of a runner he will become by the end of the season.  In early season workouts, Dan has already run 6.5 miles.  Dan had a season opening time of 26:29 at the Urbana meet.  Dan improved more than anyone else on the team at the Pontiac quad by improving a total of 1 minute and 36 seconds.  Dan placed 5th for our freshman team at the Springfield Invitational, helping the freshman team bring home the first place finish for the first time in our school history.  Dan ran a 23:58 at the Prairie Central meet.  Dan went on to run a personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational by improving more than anyone else on the team.  He improved 42 seconds for a time of 23:16.  Dan ran a personal best at the Olympia FS Invitational with a time of 21:58.  Dan ran a lifetime personal best at the U-High invitational with a time of 20:54.  He went on to run a 21:52 at the Metamora invitational putting him in the top 10 fastest freshman list at this meet.
As a sophomore, Dan ran over 400 miles in the summer.  He earned the honor of being captain of his team during his sophomore year.  Dan's new mental determination and summer mileage have really paid off.  He went from being one of the slowest in most meets to being a captain, earning his way onto our fastest top sophomore lists, and improving over 6 minutes at a time at many of our meets and practices.  He is quite the example to all of us on how to never give up no matter what your previous year had been.
He earned his way onto our team's top 10 fastest sophomore list in the Charleston Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational, and the Metamora Invitational.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September and October.  He earned his way onto our most improved over a career list by improving over 3 minutes in his career.  Dan won our team's most improved award for 2009.
As a junior, Dan ran over 500 miles in the summer.  He earned the honor of being captain for his junior year.  Dan started the season with a lifetime personal best of a 19:17 at the Charleston Invitational.  Dan continues to climb up on the most improved over a career with a 7:12 overall improvement.  Dan ran in the Varsity top 7 race at the Springfield Invitational.  Dan had a big improvement at the East Peoria Invitational where he ran a personal best of 18:28.  Dan was only one of two of our runners that ran a personal best at conference since the course was slow.  He earned his letter at the conference meet.  Dan's improvement bumped him up to #3 in the Most Improved over a Career list with a 7:35 improvement.  Dan won the 2010 scholar/athlete award and our team spirit award.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.
