Nick Ross - Senior

Nick is a third year high school cross country runner. Son of  Michael and Kristin Ross.
As a sophomore, Nick joined our team.  Nick's determination and work ethic really have been an example for the team.  His time has drastically improved from the start of the season to the mid season.  Nick's strength as a person has shown through in his running.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September and October.   He also earned his way onto the top 10 fastest sophomore list at the Metamora Invitational.  Nick ran his personal best time in his last race at conference with a time of 20:43.  He improved 2:51 seconds from his first meet of the season.  He finished his sophomore year by winning the fastest first year runner award.
As a Junior, Nick opened the season with a 22:57 while running a solid race at the Springfield Invitational.  Nick ran a great season personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational where he ran a 21:25 while representing our team in the Varsity race.  Nick ran a season best at the East Peoria Invitational where he ran a 21:22.  Nick was admired by one of our parents at the East Peoria Invitational for his selfless act of turning around so his teammate could catch up so he could help his teammate out.  Nick ended up pulling his teammate to a lifetime best.  It is a testament to Nick's great character and team spirit.  Nick had another break through at U-High where he ran a lifetime best of 20:20.  His time was fast enough to put him on the most improved over a career list with an improvement of 3:14.  Nick won our team's 2010 Clydesdale award.
He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.
As a senior, Nick opened his senior year by running a solid 20:46 at the Charleston Invitational where his team won the invitational.  Nick went on to run number 7 for his team to help them win the Springfield invitational open race.  This was the first time in the history of our school that we won the open race and Nick's top 7 finish helped make the difference.  It is great to see a senior finish his final season with such success as an individual and as a team.  Nick ran a lifetime best at Peoria Notre Dame with a lifetime personal best of 20:05.  He ran another lifetime best at the East Peoria Invitational where he ran a 19:34.  Nick earned enough letter points to earn a varsity letter.  Nick earned high enough grades last year to earn him academic letter.  This earned him our team's honor of scholar/athlete.  Nick ran a 3 mile lifetime best at the U-High invitational with a 19:34.  He has earned himself a reputation for pulling his teammates to great times throughout the season.  He is the backbone to the team in so many ways.  His improvement in his time moved him up to #23 in our all time list for most improved over his career with a 3:58 improvement.  Nick ran 1:30 better than his 2010 time at the Metamora meet during the 2011 season with a 20:01.  Nick ended his career with a big personal best of a 19:19 despite the horrible winds.  He moved up to #22 in our team's most improved over a career list with a 4:13 career improvement.
