Kyle Appelquist - Junior

Kyle is a third year high school cross country runner and returning letterman.  Son of Karl and Pam Appelquist.
   As a freshman, Kyle comes to our team with jr. high cross country experience under his belt.  Kyle ran at State his 8th grade year.  He earned a medal in his first high school race at the Charleston Invitational by placing 4th in the open race with a time of 18:37.  He earned his way onto our highest open finishes at the Charleston Invitational by placing 4th.  He was a member of the freshman meet championship team at the Springfield Invitational freshmen race.  He earned his way onto our team's 10 fastest freshman lists for the Charleston, Eureka FS Invitational, East Peoria Invitational, and Metamora Invitational.  He earned a medal at the Eureka FS Invitational by placing 15th. He was part of the Eureka FS meet champion team.  Kyle went on to run a 3 mile personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational with a time of 18:10.  Kyle ran a season best at the East Peoria Invitational with a 17:55.  Kyle ran 18:10 at the Metamora Invitational placing him into our top ten fastest freshmen times at this meet.  Kyle made it onto our team's Regional roster his freshman year.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September, October, & November.
   As a sophomore, Kyle returns to the team as a letterman with one strong year of high school cross country and track under his belt.  Kyle put in over 600 miles in the summer before his sophomore year.  He earned the honor of being a captain his sophomore year.  Kyle opened up his sophomore year by earning a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing 12th in the open race.  Kyle's second race he led our open team to a team championship.  Kyle finished 3rd which is our highest opeen finish ever at the Springfield Invitational.  Kyle earned a medal and ran a lifetime personal best of 17:29 on a very challenging course.  He earned a spot on our fastest top 10 sophomore runners at the Springfield Invitational.  Kyle earned high enough grades during his freshman year to earn an academic letter at the beginning of his sophomore year.  This earned him our team's scholar/athlete award.  He earned his athletic letter for cross country for the second year in a row.  After a hard week of practice, Kyle just missed his lifetime best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational with another solid time of 17:37.  Kyle had a major break through at the East Peoria Invitational where he really went after the top seven runners on our team.  He ended up breaking into the 16s for the first time with a 16:40.  This would have been fast enough to win the fresh/soph race.  He earned a spot on our fastest sophomore times list for the East Peoria Invite.  Kyle made his way onto the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders in September.  Kyle ran a 3 mile personal best at the U-High Invitational where he ran a 16:52 to run 8th for the team.  Kyle earned his way onto the fastest U-High invitational times for sophomores.  Kyle ran another solid race at the Metamora invitational with a time of 17:28.  He earned his way onto our fastest top 10 sophomore times at the Metamora Invitational. 
He worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list for October.  Kyle finished his season by placing a very high 6th place in the open race at Conference.  Kyle improved an impressive 1:18 from his last year's best time.  Kyle's great times over the year earned him a spot on our team's state series roster for his sophomore year.  He worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list for November.
