Matthew Chupp - Senior

Matthew is a first year high school cross country runner and letterman.  Son of  Danny and Loretta Chupp.
As a senior, Matthew joined us after an incredible track season where he brought home a medal by placing 9th in the 3200 meter relay.  Matthew has quickly figured out how to train for and run a strong 3 mile race.  Matthew earned a medal in his first high school cross country race by placing 7th in the Charleston Invitational open race.  He ran a solid time of 17:48 which was strong enough to earn him a spot on our team's fastest top 15 senior times list for the Charleston Invitational.  Matthew made his way onto the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders in September.  Matthew went on to run a lifetime best at the Springfield Invitational with a time of 17:33.  His time was fast enough to earn him a spot on our team's fastest senior times list for the Springfield Invite.  He placed 5th which was high enough to earn him a medal in the open race.  His place is the 4th highest ever for a MS runner in the open race.  Matthew earned enough letter points by his second meet to earn his first cross country varsity letter.  Matthew ran a gutsy race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran 2/3rds of the race at a low 16's pace.  He ended up close to his personal best with a 17:37.  Matthew broke into the 16's at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a lifetime best of 16:49.  This placed him 10th on our fastest senior list list at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran 8th for the team as he earned a spot on our team's runners in the 16's list.  The next week, Matthew joined our old dog club by breaking 5 minutes in the mile.  He also earned a spot on our all time fastest seniors list for our home course by running a 17:15 and placing 6th for our team at our 1 team Mahomet-Seymour Invitational.  Matthew  made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Matthew earned a spot on our sub 30 South Mahomet Loop club by running a 29:10.  Matthew ran 7th for the team at the Metamora Invitational and helped his team win the invitational for the first time.  Matthew ran a lifetime best of 16:18.  This was the 8th fastest time any MS senior has ever run on this course.  He helped our team earn the fastest top 7 average at this meet with his great effort.  Matthew cut 48 seconds off his lifetime 3 mile best at the conference meet where he ran a 16:45 in the varsity race.  He placed 16th and helped his team earn 2nd.  Matthew bumped up to the 5th fastest runner on the team.  Matthew came back with a 20 second lifetime best at the Regional meet.  Matthew ran a 16:25 and placed 13th overall.  He once again ran 5th for our team.  He helped his team win the Regional meet.  Matthew ran a near personal best on a wet Sectional course to run a 16:33.  Matthew ran 5th for our team and helped the team win the Sectional meet for the first time since 1979.  Matthew became a State Qualifier his first season out for cross country.  Matthew ended off his high school cross country career with a lifetime best of 16:01.  He earned the fastest new runner award with this performance.  He ran 4th for his team and helped them to place 11th.  He individually placed 124th in the State meet.  He improved 1:47 from his first meet to his last.  He earned the 14th fastest MS senior spot on out teams fastest times at State list.  He was a great addition to our team both in character and speed.
