2013 News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September, October, & November
As a Freshman, Brian joins us with junior high cross country and track experience.  Brian ran 6th, 7th, and 8th grade cross country.  Brian had a great base coming into his freshman year as he ran an impressive 400 miles.  He started off his first week of practice by running a 5 mile trial faster than his older brother had as a freshman.  Brian showed he is a tough runner from the start.  He earned his way onto our 400 mile club in 2013.  Brian earned a medal in his first high school race.  He placed 32nd out of 187 runners.  Brian's time was also fast enough to earn him a spot on our team's fastest top 15 freshman times list for the Charleston Invitational.  His time placed him 11th on the time.  Brian became one of the runners that the coaches most relied on in workouts to push the pace in workouts.  Despite being younger, he would lead the pack.  In his second race, Brian placed 3rd in the Springfield Invitational freshman race.  He ran a lifetime best of 11:17.  His time placed him 10th on our fastest freshman list at the Springfield invitational.  Brian earned a medal for his high place.  He helped his team win the Springfield Invitational freshman race team title.  Brian also earned enough letter points to earn his first varsity letter.  Brian made the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders list in September.  Brian ran a lifetime best by 26 seconds at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He helped his fresh/soph team place higher than any Mahomet team ever had in this invite before.  His time was fast enough to earn him the 14th fastest freshman time ever at this invite.  Brian ran a personal best at the East Peoria Invitational with a 17:01.  He narrowly missed the 16s.  His time earned him the 11th spot on our team's fastest freshmen list for this invite.  He ran 10th for his team which is quite impressive since they were ranked #2 in the State that week.  Brian placed 37th.  This is one of the top 30 varsity places our team has had in 9 years.  Brian made his way onto the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in October.  Brian had another great race at the Metamora Invitational where he broke into the 16s for the first time.  He ran a 16:41 which earned him the 6th fastest freshmen spot on our fastest times list for the Metamora Invitational.  His time was the 12th fastest freshman time our program has had in 44 years.  Brian ran an amazing race at the conference meet.  He ran 3rd for the team and helped our team win the open race for the first time in 28 years.  Brian had such a strong freshman season that he earned a spot on our top 12 State meet series roster.  Brian ran an amazing race at the conference meet.  The course was slow, but Brian managed to run a 17:12.  Brian placed 3rd in the open race and helped pull his team to win the open for the first time.  They had a team score of 16 thanks to the help of Brian.  Brian earned his way onto our team's sub 30 South Mahomet loop club with a 28:58.  Brian earned his way onto the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in November.
