2013 News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September

As a Freshman, Tristan joins us with junior high cross country running experience.  Tristan is a quiet runner, but leads by example.  Tristan showed us in early season workouts that he just doesn't give up.  In workouts that would have made earlier year runners quit early, Tristan shows great inner strength by pushing through them.  Tristan is a great addition to our team.  Tristan opened up his high school career with a time of 26:26.  He ran a smooth first race at the Charleston Invitational.  Tristan had a major lifetime personal best at the Springfield Invitational.  He smashed his previous best of 16:10 with over a minute improvement.  He skipped the 15s and ran a 14:58.  He helped his team win the freshman team championship trophy.  Tristan earned a spot on the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in September.  Tristan improved an amazing 3:51 at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  His new lifetime best of 22:37 earned him the 29th spot on our team most improved over a career list.  Tristan has shown an impressive amount of determination throughout the season.  Where many of his tough teammates have backed down in workouts, Tristan seems to run every workout in its entirety.  Tristan ran another lifetime best at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a 22:33 and finished stride for stride with his teammate Christopher Williams.  Tristan was one of the few runners on our team that ran a lifetime best on this challenging course.  Tristan had an amazing run at the Metamora Invitational.  He improved about 2 minutes and ran in the 20's for the first time.  Tristan ran a 20:45 for a season best time.  Tristan ran a lifetime best in his final race of the season.  He was one of only three runners on our team to be able to run a personal best at this meet.  Tristan cut off 29 seconds to run a 22:08.  His improvement earned him the 23rd spot on our team's most improved over a career list with a 4 minute and 18 second overall improvement.
As a sophomore, Tristan came out stronger and much more determined than his freshman year.  Tristan moved his way up in practice and put in 7 mile runs on the weekends.  His hard work in practice and the weekends paid off as he opened his sophomore season with a 22:25 at the Charleston Invitational.  This was a 4 minute and 1 second improvement from his Charleston Invite time just one year before.  This was the 2nd biggest improvement on the entire team.  Tristan had a strong race on the challenging Springfield Invitational course.  Tristan improved 37 seconds from his season best to run a 21:48.  This was the second highest improvement on our team for the day.  Tristan's time was 20 seconds better than his lifetime 3 mile best.  He moved up in our most improved over a career list to #20 with an impressive 4 minute and 38 second improvement from his first high school 3 mile race to his best high school 3 mile race.  This reveals both how much Tristan has grown as a runner, but also how determined he has been this year with his workouts and weekend training runs.  Tristan is an awesome example for his teammates on how to keep improving and never give up attitude.  Tristan ran in the top 7 for his team and helped them win the team championship for the Springfield Invitational open race.  Tristan had one of the biggest improvements of the day at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 21:08 which was a 40 second improvement from his previous 3 mile lifetime best.  He improved 1 minute and 37 seconds from his time just one year earlier at this invite.  He moved up seven spots to number 13 on the most improved career list with a 5:18 overall improvement in his short career.  Tristan had another solid race at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a 22:57.  Tristan continued to show a lot of guts in our toughest workouts throughout the week.  He definitely possesses a never give up attitude.  Tristan ran an amazing race at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a season best time by 54 seconds to run a time of 20:14.  This was a 31 second improvement from his time just one year ago at the Metamora Invitational.  Tristan's time was fast enough to earn him spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list for the Metamora Invitational.  Tristan ran a lifetime 3 mile best time at the Conference meet with a 20:38.  This was another 30 second improvement from his previous 3 mile best.  He moved up to the #12 spot on our team's most improved over a career list with an overall career improvement of 5 minutes and 48 seconds.  His time was 1 minute and 40 seconds faster than he ran at the 2013 Conference meet.  Tristan has really shown the team how determined he is.  Tristan earned our team's most improved fresh/soph runner award as a sophomore.  He improved 1 minute and 40 seconds from his last year to this year's best time.
