As a Freshman, Brian joins us with junior high cross country and track
experience. Brian ran 6th, 7th, and 8th grade cross
country. Brian had a great
base coming into his freshman year as he ran an impressive 400
miles. He started off his first week of practice by running a 5
mile trial faster than his older brother had as a freshman. Brian
showed he is a tough runner from the start. He earned his way
onto our 400 mile club in 2013.
Brian earned a medal in his first high school race. He placed
32nd
out of 187 runners. Brian's time was also fast enough to earn him
a
spot on our team's fastest top 15 freshman times list for the
Charleston
Invitational. His time placed him 11th on the team. Brian
became
one of the runners that the coaches most relied on in workouts to push
the
pace in workouts. Despite being younger, he would lead the
pack.
In his second race, Brian placed 3rd in the Springfield Invitational
freshman
race. He ran a lifetime best of 11:17. His time placed him
10th
on our fastest freshman list at the Springfield invitational.
Brian
earned a medal for his high place. He helped his team win the
Springfield Invitational freshman race team title. Brian also
earned enough letter
points to earn his first varsity letter. Brian made the
News-Gazette
prep cross country leaders list in September. Brian ran a
lifetime
best by 26 seconds at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. He
helped his fresh/soph team place higher than any Mahomet team ever had
in this invite
before. His time was fast enough to earn him the 14th fastest
freshman
time ever at this invite. Brian ran a personal best at the East
Peoria
Invitational with a 17:01. He narrowly missed the 16s. His
time
earned him the 11th spot on our team's fastest freshmen list for this
invite.
He ran 10th for his team which is quite impressive since they were
ranked
#2 in the State that week. Brian placed 37th. This is one
of
the top 30 varsity places our team has had in 9 years. Brian
made his way onto the
News-Gazette's
prep cross country leaders list in October. Brian had another
great race at the Metamora Invitational where he broke into the 16s for
the first time. He ran a 16:41 which earned him the 6th fastest
freshmen spot on our fastest times list for the Metamora
Invitational. His time was the 12th fastest freshman time our
program has had in 44 years. Brian ran an amazing race at the
conference meet. He ran 3rd for the team and helped our team win
the open race for the first time in 28 years. Brian had such a
strong freshman season that he earned a spot on our top 12
State meet series roster. Brian ran an amazing race at the
conference meet. The course was slow, but Brian managed to run a
17:12. Brian placed 3rd in the open race and helped pull his team
to win the open for the
first time. They had a team score of 16 thanks to the help of
Brian. Brian earned his way onto our team's sub 30 South Mahomet
loop club with
a 28:58. Brian earned his way onto the
News-Gazette's
prep cross country leaders list in November. As a sophomore, Brian joined us after a solid track season. Brian took his summer training very seriously. He helped lead the team as well as he ran over 600 miles in the summer. This earned Brian onto our 600 mile club in 2014. Brian stepped in to the top 5 in almost every run early in the season. He opened up his sophomore year by placing 5th for the team at the Charleston Invitational. He broke the 16:00 barrier to earn a spot on our team's 15 minute mile club with a time of 15:59. Brian placed 8th in the meet to earn a medal. Brian helped his team win the invitational as well as run the fastest Mahomet team time for the top 5 and top 7 runners. Brian earned Illinois Elite status by dyestat for his performance at the Charleston Invitational. He also earned the 3rd fastest sophomore time ever run by a Mahomet runner at the Charleston Invitational. He improved 1:44 from his last year's Charleston time to run his lifetime personal best. Brian made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September. Brian went on to help his team win the Springfield Invitational. Brian ran a 16:06 on a sluggish course. Brian helped his team run the fastest top 7 team average at this Invitational and score the lowest points ever run at this invitational. Brian's time earned him the 4th fastest time on our team's fastest top sophomore times list at the Springfield Invitational. Brian earned his varsity letter after earning enough varsity letter points by the end of the Springfield Invitational. Brian earned his way onto the Old Dog club by breaking 5 minutes in the mile. Brian ran another lifetime best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. He ran a 15:55 to earn Illinois Elite status by dyestatil.com. Brian improved 1 minute and 15 seconds from his last year's PND time. Brian ran #5 for our team beating 60 team's #5 runners. He was our fastest #5 runner Mahomet has ever had at this invitational. Brian helped his team beat 19 state ranked teams and 3 nationally ranked teams to place 2nd in the PND invitational. This is the highest our team has ever placed. He helped our team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 team average we have ever run at this invitational. Brian earned the 3rd highest spot on our team's fastest top times list at the PND invite for sophomores. Brian helped his team earn the 45th spot as a nationally ranked team this week. Brian ran another best at the East Peoria Invitational. He ran a 15:42 to place 4th for his team and 9th overall. Brian earned a medal for his 9th place finish. His time was a 1 minute and 19 second improvement from just one year earlier at this same invite. He helped his team win the invitational in the lowest team score we have scored at this invitational and the lowest top 5 runner average time we have ever had. Brian earned Illinois elite status by dyestat for his great time at the East Peoria race. He also ran the 2nd fastest time ever run by a Mahomet sophomore at this invitational. Brian helped his team earn a national ranking of 36 for the week. Brian earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his strong academic success. Brian made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October. Brian ran a solid race at the Metamora Invitational where he ran in the 15s again with a 15:51. Brian's time was the 3rd fastest sophomore time we have ever had at the Metamora Invitational. Brian earned a medal by placing 29th. Brian improved 50 seconds from his time at this invite just one year earlier. He helped his team run the fastest top 7 runner average ever run at this invite. Brian has been in the top 7 of his team all season. He has been an essential part of driving his team to continuing to be ranked 2nd in the State and 35th in the Nation the week following the Metamora Invite. Brian ran another great race at the Conference meet. He broke into the 15s again despite it being a slow course. He ran a 15:56. Brian earned a medal and all-conference status by placing in the top 10. He placed 8th overall and 5th for his team. He helped his team win in a big way as they had 7 of the top 10 spots. He helped his team run the lowest top 5 runner and top 7 runner average we have had in 45 years. They also scored our lowest team average at the Conference meet with a score of 22. He helped his team win the Conference meet. Brian earned the 4th spot on our team's fastest times list for the conference meet. He also earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat. Brian had such a strong season that he earned a spot on our team's State meet roster. Brian ran a solid race at the Sectional meet with a 16:13. He ran 6th for his team and helped his team qualify for State. Brian ran the 9th fastest sophomore Mahomet time we have had in 45 years at the Sectional meet. He helped his team run the fastest top 7 runner average we have had in those 45 years by a Mahomet team at the Sectional meet. Brian made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November. Brian ran a 3 mile lifetime best at the State meet. He ran a 15:42 which placed him 69th. This was a 13 second improvement from his previous lifetime 3 mile best time. Brian helped his team run the fastest top 7 time not only run at the State meet, but in any meet ever run by a Mahomet-Seymour time in any meet. Brian earned Illinois Elite Status for his great time. Brian ran the 5th fastest time ever run by a Mahomet sophomore at the State meet. Brian ended his season by earning a State medal around his neck by helping his team win the 2nd place team trophy. Brian earned the 2nd amount of letter points ever earned by a Mahomet sophomore since 2002. He earned the most valuable fresh/soph runner for our team his sophomore year. As a junior, Brian continued to increase his summer miles. He ran just shy of 800 miles in the summer. He earned a spot on our team's 700 mile club and 1000 York mile club. Brian earned the honor of being a captain his junior year. Brian had a strong showing at our first invitational. Brian earned a medal by placing 6th at the Charleston Invitational. He helped his team win the invitational with 23 points. He helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner and overall team average at the Charleston Invitational. Brian's time of 15:53 earned him a spot on our team's 15 minute 3 mile club. Brian's time also helped him earn Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com. Brian ran 6 seconds faster at this invitational compared to last year. Brian earned the 4th spot on our teams fastest junior top times list for the Charleston Invitational. He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September. Brian ran a lifetime best at the Springfield Invitational with a time of 15:40 despite it being a very challenging course. He placed 4th overall behind his teammates. He helped lead his team to the lowest score, lowest top 5 runner average, lowest top 7 average, and lowest total team average at this invitational by a Mahomet team. He earned a medal with his 4th place finish. He earned the 4th fastest spot on our top times list for juniors at this invitational. He earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com. He earned enough points to earn his third high school cross country varsity letter. Brian earned his way onto our Old Dog club as a junior. He also earned his way onto our sub 30 South Mahomet loop again as a junior. Brian had an amazing race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. He ran 2nd for his team to help them place 4th out of 69 teams. He ran a 15:05 just missing the 14s. Brian placed 26th overall earning himself a medal. He helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner and top 7 runner average we have had at this invite. He earned the 3rd highest spot on our team's fastest junior times list for the PND invite. Brian earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com for his race. He improved an impressive 35 seconds to run this lifetime best. Brian Butcher ran the 5th fastest junior time ever run by a Mahomet runner at any meet in 46 years. He ran the 11th fastest time of any Mahomet runner at any grade in any meet in 46 years. Brian ran a fast race at the East Peoria Invitational. He placed 3rd with a 15:24. He helped his team win the meet with the lowest team score, fastest top 5 runner average, and top 7 runner average any Mahomet team has had at this invite. Brian and his teammates placed 1st through 4th. Brian cut off 18 seconds from his last year's race. Brian earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com for his race time. He earned a medal for placing 3rd. He earned the 5th spot for the fastest junior times list for this meet by a Mahomet runner. Brian earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in October. Brian ran a 15:08 at the Metamora Invitational. This earned him Illinois Elite status by dyestat.com. His time earned him the 4th fastest Mahomet junior time on this course and the 6th fastest Mahomet junior time in any meet on any course in the past 46 years. He improved 43 seconds from his time just one year ago at this invite. Brian placed 5th overall helping his team win the invite and earning himself a medal. He helped his team earn the lowest team score (26), lowest top 5 runner average (15:01), and lowest top 7 runner average (15:07) of any Mahomet team at this invitational. Brian ran a solid race at the Conference meet. He helped his team win the meet with the fastest top 5 runner average we have run. Brian ran a 15:14 to place 7th. His place earned him a medal and All-Conference honors. His time was a 42 second improvement from his last year's conference time. His time earned him the 6th spot on our team's fastest top times list for juniors at the Conference meet. Brian made his way onto our State series roster for the third season. Brian ran a smart and smooth race at the Sectional meet. He placed 10th which earned him a medal and All-Sectional honors. He ran a 15:40 which earned him Il Elite Status by dyestat.com. He also earned the 7th spot on our team's fastest top junior times list for the Sectional meet. Brian helped his team win the Sectional meet advancing his team to the State meet. Brian also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November. Brian placed 61st at State. He helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner average we have had at State. He helped his team earn the 2nd place team trophy and a medal for doing that. He ran the 7th fastest Mahomet junior time at the State meet with a 15:42. He earned Illinois Elite Status for his fast time. He helped his team score the lowest team score at State for our team. Brian earned out team's scholar athlete award for his great grades the previous year. Brian earned our team's most consecutive days in a row award. Brian won the Brent Johnson True Grit Award for his toughness. As a senior, Brian entered the season as a State qualifier in track in the 2 mile. He ran over 1000 miles in the summer to get ready for the XC season. He earned the title of captain for the 2nd year in a row. He earned a spot on our York 1000 mile club. Brian became one of the few runners to break 10 miles in our hour run. Brian opened up his season using a team pack concept to help his team win the invitational. He ran a 15:53 to join our 15 minute 3 mile club in his first race. He placed 7th in the meet with a tight pack of less than a 1 second spread between 2nd and 7th. He helped his team place 1st-8th in the 13 team invitational to win with a perfect score. He earned a medal by placing 7th. He earned the 6th fastest spot on our team's fastest top senior times list at the Charleston Invitational. Brian earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September. Brian ran in a tight pack of 1 second to help his team win the the 20 team invitational in a big way. Brian earned a medal for his high finish. He earned his forth high school varsity XC letter after this meet. He earned one of the top spots on our team's fastest senior times list at the Springfield Invitational. Brian had a strong race on a wet course at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. We have only had 11 runners in 17 years ever place in the top 33 in this meet. Brian holds two of those spots. Brian placed 33rd to earn a medal. He helped his team place 2nd in the the 70 team invitational. They beat 23 State ranked teams and 2 nationally ranked teams. Brian earned the 5th spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the PND Invitational. Brian ran a season personal best with an improvement of 28 seconds. Brian ran a comfortable 15:38 at the East Peoria Invite. He helped his team win with a perfect score of 15. Brian earned the 9th fastest spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the East Peoria Invite. He earned a medal for his high place. Brian joined our team's old dog sub 5 minute mile club by breaking 5 minutes in the mile. He joined our sub 5 for 5 club. Brian ran a lifetime best of 15:01 at the Metamora Invitational. Brian won a medal by placing 7th. He helped his team win the 26 team invitational with 20 points. Brian earned the 6th spot on our fastest senior times list at the Metamora Invitational. He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in October. Brian broke into the 14's at the Conference meet with a 14:56. He is one of only 12 runners in our school's 47 year history to break 15:00. Brian earned a spot on our team's 14 minute mile club. Brian ran the 4th fastest senior time at conference in the history of our school. He placed 5th to earn a medal and All-conference honors. He helped his team win with 17 points. They ran the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average we have had at the conference meet. Brian improved 29 seconds on his previous best 3 mile this season. He improved 18 seconds from his last year's conference time. He earned a spot on our team's State meet roster. He earned Elite status for his effort at the conference meet by milesplit.com. Brian led our team to a Regional Championship. He placed 3rd to earn All-Regional status. He earned a medal for his high finish. He ran a 15:03 which earned him the 3rd fastest time on our team's fastest senior list at the Regional meet. He earned elite status by Milesplit.com for his great Regional time. He helped our team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average we have ever had at this meet. He ran a great race at State. He ran a 15:03 which earned him the 6th spot on our team's fastest senior times list at State. He placed 21st earning a medal and All-State status. He helped his team win State as a team so he earned a second medal for that. He helped our team tie 2 State records. They set the most amount of All-State runners with 6. Only 2 other teams in 71 years have accomplished this. They also ran the fastest top 5 team average of any non AAA team in 71 years. Brian earned our team's most valuable award and Bulldog award along with his State team. He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in November. Brian earned Elite Status from his performance at State. He earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his high grades. He went on to earn a spot on the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in December. He earned First Team All Area Honors. He earned Elite status by milesplit for his time at the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional race where he ran a 16:11 to place 106th. He helped his team place 3rd. Brian's team won an at-large bid to qualify for the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland. Brian placed 147th at the Nike Cross Nationals with a 17:23 on a very muddy course. He helped his team place 17th at Nationals. Brian helped his team earn a national ranking as high as 13th throughout the season. In the final rankings his team earned a 17th in the nation spot. |
