2016 News-Gazette All-Area Second Team

   As a Freshman, Evan entered our program with junior high experience as a cross country runner.  He was one of the leaders on the junior high team that placed 7th in State.  Evan's biggest strengths in running is that he enjoys working hard and he enjoys running.  Evan ran a half marathon in junior high.  Evan took his summer training seriously.  Evan ran 300 miles to join our team's 300 mile club.  Evan's miles paid off as he could handle the tougher high school distances well.  Evan ran the fastest Buffalo trail run time ever run by a freshman in our early time trial.  He ran faster than many State qualifiers and State placers did in previous years.  Evan had a great season opener at the Charleston Invitational.  Evan ran an 18:26.  This earned him a spot on our team's fastest top freshman list for the Charleston Invitational.  He ranks 21st.  Evan ran one of the fastest freshman times on our South Mahomet course mid season.  His work ethic and passion for running indicate he will be a leader in the area for running soon.  Evan made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Evan dominated in his second race at the Springfield Invitational freshman race.  Evan earned the runner up individual title only being beat by his fellow teammate.  Evan earned a medal for placing 2nd overall.  He helped lead his team to earning the Springfield Invitational freshman race team title.  His time of 11:11 was a lifetime best by 40 seconds.  His time also earned him the 9th fastest Mahomet freshman time ever run on that course.  Evan earned enough letter points after his Springfield race to earn his 1st high school varsity letter.  Evan ran a very impressive time at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 1 minute and 19 seconds lifetime best with a time of 17:07.  He barely missed the 16s and helped lead his freshman/soph team.  Evan had the second biggest improvement on our team for the meet.  He earned our team's most improved runner for the week as a result.  Evan's time was fastest enough to earn him the 15th fastest freshman time we have ever had at this meet.  Evan ran a solid race at the East Peoria Invitational despite not feeling well before the race.  Evan was able to gather up determination to still be able to run in the 17s again with a 17:38.  His time was fast enough to earn him a spot on our team's fastest top freshman times list for the East Peoria Invitational.  Evan made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Evan showed great loyalty to his team making a trip to the Metamora Invitational to cheer on his team despite being injured and not being able to race.  This sort of loyalty and commitment to the team is very rare.  Evan made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.
    As a sophomore, Evan ran almost 600 miles in the summer before his sophomore year.  He earned a spot on our team's 500 mile club.  Evan did a great job working through some early season injuries.  He made it back in time for our first meet.  At the Charleston Invitational he did well and ran a 18:44.  A solid start to the season.  He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Evan ran a season best by one minute and 31 seconds.  That is an amazing jump.  He looked strong even through the finish.  He placed 7th overall and 3rd on his team.  He helped his team earn the runner-up position in the open race.  His high finish earned him a medal.  His time earned him the 18th fastest sophomore spot on our team's fastest times list for sophomores at this invite.  He earned enough letter points after his second meet to earn his second varsity cross country letter.  Evan had an amazing race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He led his team pulling them to great times in the invite.  He ran a season best by 31 seconds.  He ran a lifetime best with a time of 16:36 breaking into the 16s for the first time.  He made it onto our team's 16 minute 3 mile club.  Evan placed 62nd overall to help his team place 10th out of 50 teams.  Evan earned the 15th fastest time we have ever had run by a sophomore at this invite.  Evan helped his team win the fresh/soph race at the East Peoria Invitational by placing 10th overall.  He earned a medal and ran a 17:22.  This was a 16 second improvement from his last year's time at this meet.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest top sophomore times list for the East Peoria Invitational.  He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in October.  Evan ran a 17:17 at the Metamora Invitational.  His time was fast enough to earn him the 22nd fastest spot on our team's fastest sophomore list at the Metamora Invitational.  He currently holds the 40th fastest sophomore time for any Mahomet sophomore in any race in 46 years.  Evan ran a great race at the Conference meet.  He ran in the 16s again with a 16:40.  He placed 12th in the open race to help his team win.  Evan earned the 19th fastest spot on our team's fastest top sophomore times list for the Conference meet.  Evan went on to break 5:00 in the mile for the first time to earn a spot on our team's Old Dog club.  Evan also broke 30 minutes to earn a spot on our Sub 30 South Mahomet loop club.  Evan also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Evan and his teammates earned at medal at the State meet for placing 2nd.
    As a junior, Evan had a great summer of training.  He ran over 700 miles to join our 700 mile club.  He ran 1000 York miles to join our 1000 York mile club.  He earned the title of captain as a junior.  Evan had a great time at the Charleston Invitational despite losing a shoe at the 800 mark.  He showed great determination to run without a shoe on a primarily gravel path.  He ran a 17:06 which earned him a spot on our team's fastest junior top times list for the Charleston Invitational.  He improved 1 minute and 38 seconds from his last year's time at the Charleston Invitational.  He earned a medal by placing 34th in the 13 team invitational.  Evan
earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Evan earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Evan helped his team win the Springfield Invitational with the lowest team score ever of 16 points.  He earned a medal for his high finish of 4th.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest junior top times list at the Springfield Invitational.  He earned his third varsity XC letter after this meet.  Evan ran one of the greatest races in the history of our program.  He lead the Peoria Notre Dame 72 teams Invitational open race for the entire race.  He won the invitational in a time of 16:24.  It was his lifetime best despite the course being slow due to wet ground.  He became our only PND Invite champion ever.  Evan had a 42 second season improvement.  He earned the 18th spot on our team's fastest junior times list at the PND Invite.  He earned a medal for his first place finish.  Evan ran a very strong race at the East Peoria Invite.  He packed up with his team.  They earned 7 of the top 10 spots to win the 21 team invitational.  Evan ran his lifetime best of 16:04.  He earned a medal for his high place.  Evan earned the 15th fastest junior time for a Mahomet runner at this meet in the past 12 years.  Evan earned a medal at the Metamora Invitational where he placed 26th in the 26 team invitational.  He earned the 13th fastest junior time on our fastest times at the Metamora Invite.  He earned a spot on our team's 15 minute 3 mile with his time of 15:42.  This was his lifetime best time.  He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Evan ran a smart race at the Conference meet.  He placed 10th in the open race.  He ran a 16:33 which earned him the 28th spot on our team's fastest junior times list for the Conference meet.  Evan earned a spot on our team's State meet roster.  Evan helped our team to a Regional Championship.  He placed 10th.  He ran a 15:36 which earned him the 8th fastest time on our team's fastest junior list at the Regional meet.  Evan improved 48 seconds from his season 3 mile best at the right time.  He placed 4th for our team which made all the difference in winning the meet as a team.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average we have ever had at this meet.  Evan ran another strong race at the Sectional meet.  He ran a 15:39 to place 18th.  He was one of the two runners that beat the runners our team needed to beat in order to make sure our team won the Regional and Sectional meets.  Without his great improvement compared to the opponents runners we would not have won.  He helped our team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average at the Sectional meet in our 47 year history.  He earned the 7th fastest junior time at the Sectional meet for a Mahomet runner in 47 years.  He became a state qualifier.  Evan earned a medal at State where the team won the State meet.  Evan earned a spot on the News Gazette's Prep Cross Country leaders list in November.  Evan earned a spot on the final News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in December.  Evan earned one of the 7 spots on the News Gazette All Area Second Team.
