   As a freshman, Andrew in with great experience from the junior high level.  Andrew ran 6th, 7th, and 8th grade cross country.  He was a part of the 8th grade team that placed 4th in State.  Andrew trained well in the summer.  He ran 300 miles and joined our 300 mile club.  His experience and determination showed in the early season workouts as he often help onto the top pack full of our best and oldest runners.  He opened up his first week with one of the fastest freshman 5 mile times we have had.  Andrew opened up his first high school race by placing 7th on our 9th ranked team in the State.  Andrew helped his team win the 13 team Charleston Invitational.  Andrew also helped our team run the fastest 7 runner team average that we have ever had at the Charleston Invitational.  His time of 17:17 placed him 6th on our fastest 15 top freshman times list for the Charleston Invitational.  His place of 26th earned him his first high school medal.  Andrew had a personal lifetime best at the Springfield Invitational.  He broke into the 10s for the first time in the 2 mile.  He led part of the race and ended up in an impressive 2nd.  He earned the runner-up medal in the freshman race and helped lead his team to the freshman team championship.  He ran the 3rd fastest freshman time we have ever had placing him on our team's top times list.  He earned his first varsity letter early in the season.  Andrew also earned a spot on the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in September.  Andrew crushed his lifetime personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He had a 44 second improvement to run a 16:34.  He joined our team's 16 minute all time list.  Andrew placed 40th in the fresh/soph race which earned him a medal.  Andrew helped pull his team to the highest fresh/soph team finish we have ever had at this invitational.  Andrew's time earned him the 3rd highest freshman time we have ever had at this invitational.  Andrew ran 7th on his Varsity team at the East Peoria Invitational.  His team was ranked 2nd in State that week.  With his top 7 team finish they held the #2 ranking the following week.  Andrew had one of the highest finishes of any Mahomet runner at this invitational.  Andrew's time of 16:32 was a lifetime best on this challenging course.  His time earned the 4th fastest Mahomet freshman time at this invite.  Andrew made his way onto the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in October.  Andrew broke 5 minutes in the mile in a big way.  He ran a 4:53 in order to earn himself a spot on our old dog club.  Andrew ran 7th for our team at the Metamora Invitational.  He helped his team win the invitational over 6 other state ranked teams.  Andrew helped our team run the fastest top 7 average for a Mahomet team at this invitational.  Andrew ran a lifetime best and broke into the 15s.  He ran a 15:48.  His time is the 3rd fastest for a freshman at this invitational.  He is also the 4th fastest freshman that we have had in our program in the 44 year history of our team.  We have only had 4 freshmen ever break 16:00 in that time.  Despite being a slow course Andrew ran a lifetime 3.0 mile best at the Conference meet with a 16:22.  Andrew ran an amazing race and placed 4th for his team.  He helped our team win the team championship for the first time in 28 years.  If Andrew hadn't run 4th for the team on that day then our team would not have won.  Andrew placed 8th in the Conference meet which earned him all-conference honors.  He also earned his 4th medal for the season at conference.  He has been in the top 7 for his team for the last month.  In that time our team has earned 2nd in the State rankings each of those weeks.  Andrew has been a major part of our team success.  Andrew earned his way onto the News Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in November.  Andrew ran a lifetime personal best 3 mile time at the Sectional meet with a 15:55.  He ran 5th for the team and helped his team win the Sectional meet.  He became a State Qualifier.  Andrew earned Illinois Elite status at the Sectional meet for his performance by dyestatil.com.  Andrew had a lifetime best at the State meet where he ran a 15:52.  His time earned him the fastest freshman time ever run by a Mahomet freshman at State.  He also earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestatil.com for his State performance.  Andrew ran 1st for his team and placed 62nd.  Andrew earned the fastest freshman award for our team for having the fastest freshman 3.0 mile of the season of 15:52.
    As a sophomore, Andrew came into the season stronger than ever.  He increased his summer miles more than anyone on the team.  He joined our 1000 York miles club.  He earned the title of being captain for his sophomore year.  Andrew's summer work paid off as he quickly moved up to running 2nd in almost every one of our practices.  Andrew's early practice times were some of the top we have ever had on the training courses.  He opened up his sophomore race season with a great race at the Charleston Invitational.  He ran a 15:48 which was the 4th fastest time ever run by any Mahomet runner in the past 10 years.  He earned the 2nd highest spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list for the Charleston Invitational.  Andrew earned a medal by placing 4th overall and 2nd for the team.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 and fastest top 7 team average ever run by a Mahomet team at this invitational.  Andrew earned Illinois elite status by dyestat for his Charleston performance.  Andrew
made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Andrew ran a lifetime best at the Springfield Invitational with a 15:40 on a wet and hilly course.  Andrew placed 3rd in the 24 team invitational to earn a medal.  Andrew helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner average, the fastest top 7 runner average, and the lowest team score at the Springfield Invitational.  Andrew helped lead his team to win the Springfield Invitational team title.  He earned Illinois elite status for his performance at the Springfield Invitational.  He ran the 2nd fastest sophomore time ever for a Mahomet runner on this course.  More impressive is that he earned the 14th fastest time ever run on this course by any runner from any school in any race since the 1970s.  He earned enough letter points after the Springfield meet to earn his 2nd varsity high school cross country letter.  Andrew earned his way into the Old Dog club again in 2014 by breaking 5 minutes in the mile.  Andrew ran a 12 second lifetime best effort at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 15:28 which was fast enough to earn him a medal by placing 37th.  Andrew earned the 2nd fastest sophomore time we have ever had run at the PND Invite.  He earned US Top 100 Status by dyestat.com for his PND performance.  Andrew helped lead his team to a 2nd place team finish beating 66 other teams, 19 State ranked teams, and 3 nationally ranked teams.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average we have ever had.  Andrew was slightly injured so we were cautious and held him out of the East Peoria Invitational.  Andrew helped his team earn a National ranking of 36th for the week from his season best time.  Andrew earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his strong academic success.  Andrew made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Andrew came back to racing at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a solid race of 16:03 and placed in the top 7 for our team.  He helped our team win the invitational and run the fastest top 7 runner average we have had at this invite.  Andrew earned a medal by placing 38th.  He also helped his team earn the ranking of 2nd in the State and 35th in the Nation the week after the Metamora Invitational.  Andrew helped his team win the Conference meet for the second time in 29 years.  He earned All-Conference honors for the second year by placing 9th.  Despite being injured Andrew ran a solid time of 16:01.  This was our 6th fastest Mahomet sophomore time run at the Conference meet in 45 years.  He helped his team run the fastest top 7 average we have had at the Conference meet in 45 years.  He improved 20 seconds from his 2013 Conference meet time.  Andrew came back well at the Sectional meet.  He ran 5th for the team with a time of 16:47.  His time earned him the 4th fastest sophomore time on our team's fastest times list for the Sectional meet.  Andrew helped his team win the Sectional meet.  He helped them run the fastest top 5 runner average and top 7 runner average that any Mahomet team has run in 45 years.  He became a two time State qualifier.  He earned a spot on the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in November.  Andrew tied his lifetime 3 mile personal best at the State meet with a time of 15:28.  He placed 41st.  He ran the fastest time any Mahomet sophomore has ever run at State.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average we have had at State.  He earned US top 100 elite status for his great time at State.  He earned a medal and helped his team win the runner-up team trophy.  Andrew earned our team's fastest sophomore award.
    As a junior, Andrew was placed as #78 on Il.MileSplit.com's top 100 runners in the State for their best 1 mile + 2 mile + 3 mile.  Andrew was also ranked as one of the top individuals in the dyestatil.com pre-season rankings.  Andrew ran just shy of 1000 miles in the summer.  He earned a spot on our team's 900 mile club.  He also earned a spot on our team's 1000 York mile club.  Andrew earned the honor of being a captain for our team for the second year.  He returns with one of the top 100 fastest times run on Peoria by any runner in the State in any class.  Andrew had a great first race at the Charleston Invitational.  Andrew earned a medal by placing 3rd at the Charleston Invitational.  He helped his team win the invitational with 23 points.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner and overall team average at the Charleston Invitational.  Andrew's time of 15:45 earned him a spot on our team's 15 minute 3 mile club.  Andrew's time also helped him earn Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com.  Andrew ran ran 3 seconds faster at this invitational compared to last year.  He earned the 2nd spot on our teams fastest junior top times list for the Charleston Invitational.  Andrew made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Andrew ran a season best at the Springfield Invitational with a time of 15:33.  He placed 2nd overall behind his teammate.  He helped lead his team to the lowest score, lowest top 5 runner average, lowest top 7 average, and lowest total team average at this invitational by a Mahomet team.  He earned a medal with his 2nd place finish.  He earned the 2nd fastest spot on our top times list for juniors at this invitational.  He earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com.  He earned enough points to earn his third high school cross country varsity letter.  Andrew earned his way onto our team's Old Dog club as a junior.  Andrew also earned his way onto our sub 30 South Mahomet loop again as a junior.  Andrew ran a lifetime personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He cut off an additional 11 seconds to run a 15:17.  His time helped him place 42nd.  He earned a medal by placing 42nd in this high powered invitational.  He helped his team place 4th out of 69 teams.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 runner and top 7 runner team average at this invitational that any Mahomet team has run.  Andrew earned the 5th highest spot on our team's fastest junior times list for the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He earned Illinois Elite Status by dyestat.com for his performance.  Andrew Walmer ran the 10th fastest junior time ever run by a Mahomet runner at any meet in 46 years.  Andrew ran the 18th fastest time ever run by a Mahomet runner in any grade at any meet in 46 years.  Andrew ran another strong race at the East Peoria Invitational.  He had a great finish kick to place 2nd in the invitational.  He earned a medal for his high finish.  He helped his team win the invite with the lowest points a Mahomet team has scored, the lowest top 5 runner average, and the lowest top 7 runner average of a Mahomet team at this invite.  His time earned him Illinois Elite status by dyestat.com.  Andrew earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Andrew had an amazing practice where he earned his way onto our sub 5 for 5 club by running five 1 mile repeats under 5 minutes each.   Andrew had the best time of his life at the Metamora invitational.  He broke into the 14s for the first time with a 14:56.  He became the 8th Mahomet runner in 46 years to break into the 14s on any course in any meet.  Andrew placed 3rd in the invite helping his team win.  Andrew earned a medal for his high place and US Top 100 Status by dyestat for his fast time.  Andrew helped his team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average at this meet.  He earned the 2nd fastest junior spot on our team's fastest top junior times list at the Metamora Invite.  Alex also ran the 4th fastest time of any junior in Mahomet's 46 year history in any meet.  He ran a season best by 21 seconds and had a 1 minute and 7 second improvement from his last year's time at this invite.  Andrew ran a strong race at Conference.  He placed 3rd with a 15:01.  His place earned him a medal and All-Conference status for the 3rd year in a row.  His time earned him the fastest junior time we have ever had at the conference meet by a junior.  It was also the 3rd fastest time at conference for any runner of any team in Conference since the Cornbelt Conference meet started in the 1970s.  Andrew helped his team win with the lowest top 5 runner average we have ever had. His time was a 60 second improvement from his last year's Conference time.   Andrew made our State series roster for the 3rd year in a row.  He ran well in the regional meet placing 4th with a time of 15:26.  He earned a medal and All-Regional Status by placing in the top 5.  He ran the 4th fastest Mahomet junior time we have had in 46 years at the Regional meet.  He earned Illinois Elite status by dyestat for his race time.  Andrew also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Andrew earned out team's scholar athlete award for his great grades the previous year.  Andrew earned our team's most consecutive days in a row award.  Andrew won the fastest junior runner award.  Andrew ran a great race at State.  He led his team again at State helping them win the 2nd place trophy.  He earned All-State honors by placing 10th.  He ran an amazing time of 14:47.45.
    As a senior, Andrew helped lead his team in the summer with over 1100 miles.  After qualifying for State in track in the 2 mile he showed he is one of the top returning runners in the State in XC and track.  Andrew broke our 1 hour run record by running 10.58 miles in an hour.  He also joined our York 1000 mile club.  He earned the title of being captain for the 3rd year in a row.  Andrew had a great showing at this first meet of his senior year.  He won the 13 team Charleston Invitational with a time of 15:31.  He is one of only 3 meet champions our team has ever had at this invitational.  He improved 14 seconds from his time at this same meet 1 year ago.  He earned the 2nd fastest time ever run by a Mahomet senior at this meet.  He earned a medal by placing first. 
Andrew made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Andrew won the Springfield Invitational his senior year and helped his team win the 20 teams invitational.  Andrew earned a medal at the invite for winning it.  Andrew earned the 3rd fastest senior time at this invite for a Mahomet senior.  He earned his 4th high school XC letter at this meet.  Andrew lead his team to a 2nd place finish at the 72 team Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  They beat out 2 nationally ranked teams in the process.  The course was slow due to wet ground.  Andrew ran a 15:05 to place 12th in this elite field.  His time earned him elite status by MileSplit.  His time earned him the 2nd fastest spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a season best by 26 seconds.  He earned a medal for his high place.  Andrew won his 3rd invitational of the year at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a solid 15:22 to lead his team to a perfect score of 15 in the 21 team invitational.  Andrew earned the 3rd fastest spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the East Peoria Invitational despite not racing all out.  He earned a medal for his first place finish.  Andrew joined our team's old dog sub 5 minute mile club by breaking 5 minutes in the mile.  Andrew finished runner up at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a 14:41 to become the 12th fastest runner on that course in the past 46 years.  He won a medal for his high place and lead his team to win the meet.  Andrew ran the 2nd fastest time by a Mahomet runner on the course.  He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Leaders List in October.  He earned a spot on our team's 14 minute 3 mile club.    Andrew ran a strong race at the Conference meet.  He earned All-conference honors again by placing 3rd.  He became the 3rd runner in our school history to earn All-conference honors all four years.  He earned the 3rd spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the Conference meet.  He ran a 14:49.  This was a 16 second improvement from his previous season best 3 mile time.  It was a 12 second improvement from his 2015 conference time.  He earned a spot on our team's State meet roster.  Andrew ran a solid race at the Sectional meet.  He ran a 14:55 to place 3rd.  His high place earned him All-Sectional honors and a medal.  He helped his team win the Sectional, earn the fastest top 5 runner average and top 7 runner average we have ever had at the Sectional meet in 47 years.  He earned the 2nd fastest senior time of any Mahomet runner in the Sectional meet in those 47 years.  He qualified for State for the 4th time.

He ran a great race at State.  He ran a 14:40 which earned him the 1st spot on our team's fastest senior times list at State.  It was the fastest time any runner from Mahomet had ever run at State.  He placed 6th earning a medal and All-State status again.  He helped his team win State as a team so he earned a second medal for that.  He helped our team tie 2 State records.  They set the most amount of All-State runners with 6.  Only 2 other teams in 71 years have accomplished this.  They also ran the fastest top 5 team average of any non AAA team in 71 years.  Andrew earned our team's most valuable award and Bulldog award along with his State team.  He also earned our team's fastest senior runner award.  He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in November.  Andrew earned Elite Status from his performance at State.  He earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his high grades.  He went on to earn a spot on the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in December.  He earned First Team All Area Honors.  Andrew also won the News Gazette athlete of the year award which is given to the fastest athlete in the News Gazette area.  He became our school's first News Gazette athlete of the year.  He earned Elite status by milesplit for his time at the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional race where he ran a 15:31 to place 24th.  He helped his team place 3rd.  Andrew's team won an at-large bid to qualify for the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland.  Andrew placed 131st at the Nike Cross Nationals with a 17:11 on a very muddy course.  He helped his team place 17th at Nationals.  Andrew helped his team earn a national ranking as high as 13th throughout the season.  In the final rankings his team earned a 17th in the nation spot.
