   As a Sophomore, Garret joins us from Urbana High School's cross country team. Garret ran cross country for three years at Urbana Middle School.  He proved himself to be one of the strongest runners in the school's history in cross country.  Garret was an individual State qualifier in cross country his 8th grade year.  He holds the fastest record for an Urbana Middle School cross country runner with a time of 11:03, which he set at State.  As a freshman, Garret was one of Urbana High School's top seven runners to help lead his team in meets.  Garret's freshman season was drastically impacted after he broke his collar bone.  His family moved to Mahomet in the late spring of his freshman year.  Garret ran over 500 miles in the summer.  He earned a spot on our team's 500 mile club.  Garret had a strong first race at the Charleston Invitational.  He cut off 49 seconds from his lifetime best by running a time of 17:02.  Garret's effort placed him 25th in the invitational where he earned a medal.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest times list at the Charleston Invitational.  His time was the 12th fastest we have had from any Mahomet sophomore at this invitational.  He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.   Garret ran a fast race at the Springfield Invitational.  He led our team in the open race.  He placed 3rd overall with a time of 16:45.  His high place earned him a medal.  His time earned him a spot on our team's 16 minute 3 mile club as it was his first time breaking into the 16s.  He improved 17 seconds from his lifetime best despite it being a challenging course.  Garret earned the 10th spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list for the Springfield Invite.  He earned enough letter points after his second meet to earn his first Mahomet varsity letter.  Garret ran a solid race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran in the very crowded varsity race where he helped his team place 4th out of 69 teams.  Garret's time of 17:07 was a solid time considering the race conditions of the crowds that slow the pace.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest top sophomore list for the PND invite.  He is a very hard worker in practice.  He earned a spot on our team's sub 30 South Mahomet loop run club.  Garret ran in the 16s again at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a 16:55 to place 3rd in the fresh/soph race.  He earned a medal for his 3rd place finish.  He helped his team win the fresh/soph race.  He ran the 17th fastest time for a Mahomet sophomore ever at this meet.  He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in October.  Garret joined our Old Dog club by breaking 5 minutes in the mile.  Garret had a season best at the Metamora Invitational.  He improved 14 seconds to run a 16:31.  His time earned him the 13th fastest spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran the 34th fastest sophomore time in the 46 year history of our program.  Garret ran his lifetime best at the Conference meet where he ran a 16:07.  Garret placed 3rd in the open race helping his team win the meet with a low score of 17 points.  Garret's time was a 24 second improvement from his previous best.  He earned the 7th spot on our team's fastest top sophomore times list for the Conference meet.  He ran the 20th fastest time ever run by a Mahomet sophomore in any race in any year for the past 46 years.  Garret earned a spot on our team's State meet roster by consistently racing in the top 12 of our team.  Garret was part of our team that qualified for State.  Garret also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Garret earned our team's most consecutive days in a row award.  Garret and his teammates earned at medal at the State meet for placing 2nd.
   As a junior, Garret entered the season strong.  He ran 700 miles in the summer to join our team's 700 mile club.  He also earned a spot on our team's 1000 York mile club.  He earned the title of captain his junior year.  Garret opened up his season with a low time of 17:05.  This time earned him a spot on our team's fastest junior times list for the Charleston Invitational.  He earned a medal by placing 32nd in the 13 team invitational.  Garret
earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Garret helped his team win the Springfield Invitational with the lowest team score ever of 16 points.  He earned a medal for his high finish of 6th.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest junior top times list at the Springfield Invitational.  He earned his second Mahomet varsity XC letter after this meet.  Garret he an incredible gutsy race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  The course was wet so it slowed the times, but Garret was extremely competitive.  The open race hosts about 1000 runners.  Garret showed great confidence in going out as one of the leaders.  He ran in the top 10 the entire race to end with a great finish kick which earned him 6th place.  He earned a medal for his high finish.  He broke into the 16s again this year to earn a spot on our team's 16 minute 3 mile club.  Garret earned the 26th spot on our team's fastest junior times list at the PND Invite.  He had the 2nd highest finish from a Mahomet runner in the open race in the 17 year history of our team going to this invite.  He ran a season best by 14 seconds.  Garret ran a season best at the East Peoria Invitational with a time of 16:41.  His time earned him the 23rd spot on our team's fastest junior times list at the East Peoria Invitational.  Garret helped his team win the 21 team invitational.  He improved 14 seconds from his 2015 East Peoria Invite time.  He placed 30th in the invite.  Garret ran a lifetime best of 16:29 at the Metamora Invitational.  Garret earned the 22nd spot on our fastest junior times list at the Metamora Invitational.  He earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in October.  Garret ran a strong race at the Conference meet.  He ran a lifetime 3 mile best of 16:18.  He placed 6th in the open race.  Garret earned the 21st spot on our team's junior fastest times list at the Conference meet.  He 33 seconds from his season best 3 mile time.  He earned a spot on our team's State meet roster.  Garret helped our team to a Regional Championship.  He placed 36th.  He ran a 16:58.  He helped his team run the fastest top 7 runner average we have ever had at this meet.  Garret helped set up his team to win the State title.  Garret earned a medal for being on the State championship team.  Garret earned a spot on the News-Gazette's Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Garret earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his high grades. He earned a spot on our team's most consecutive days in a row with over 6 months of running without missing a day.  He went on to earn a spot on the final News-Gazette Prep Cross Country leaders list in December.  Garret capped off the season by earning a spot on the News Gazette's All-Area Honorable Mention team. 
   As a senior, Garret came into the season injured.  Rather than rushing back, Garret played it smart and sat out of many of the early workouts and meets.  It takes a lot of discipline to hold yourself out when you have worked hard to race well as a senior.  Garret also used a ton of discipline to cross train throughout the fall.  Garret ran a comfortable run at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 20:05 just to get back in the swing of things.  Garret earned a spot on the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders list in September.  Garret earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his strong grades.  Garret earned our team's most consecutive days in a row award due to his dedication to consistent training. Garret had a 25 second improvement at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a season best of 19:40.  Garret had a strong race at the Conference meet where he ran a season best of 18:40.  He earned a spot on our State meet roster for his senior year.  Garret e
