As a Freshman, Kiel joins us with three years of junior high track experience as a sprinter.  Kiel quickly adjusted to being a long distance runner.  In his first race he ran very well.  He ran a 19:00 at the Charleston Invitational which is a great time for a first high school race.  He earned himself a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Kiel ran an amazing race at the Springfield Invitational.  He showed what a great competitor he is by placing 9th in the Freshmen race.  He earned a medal for his 9th place finish.  He helped his team win the Freshman race with the lowest score we have seen with a score of 16.  He earned enough letter points after his second race to earn his first Varsity letter.  Kiel ran another lifetime personal best at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran in the 18s for the first time with an 18:56.  He helped his team placed 10th in the invitational.  Kiel's time earned him a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Kiel earned our team's fastest new runner award.  Kiel also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Kiel and his teammates earned at medal at the State meet for placing 2nd.
As a junior, Kiel returned for a second year stronger than he left.  He ran a great race at the Charleston Invitational where he ran a 18:36.  This was his lifetime best by 20 seconds.  He was the only runner on his team to run a lifetime best this early in the season.  We held Kiel out of his second race of the season to prevent him from getting injured.  Kiel earned a spot on the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders list in September.  Kiel didn't run in the third race.  Kiel earned our team's scholar/athlete award for his strong grades.  Kiel's season ended with an injury that we couldn't get healed in time.
He earned a spot on the News Gazette Area Cross Country Leaders List in October.  He earned a spot on the News Gazette Area Cross Country Leaders List in November.  He earned a medal for being part of our State championship team.
