2017 News-Gazette All-Area Honorable Mention

   As a sophomore, Nate came into the season very prepared.  He ran 400 miles in the summer to join our team's 400 mile club.  He ran almost every day in the summer.  He quickly showed he is a great runner as he handled the workouts well.  Nate improved about 4 minutes from his early season time trials to his first meet.  He ran a 17:46 which is an amazing first time.  He earned the 24th spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list at the Charleston Invitational.  Nate earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list in September.  Nate helped his team win the Springfield Invitational with the lowest team score ever (16 points).  He placed 10th in the race to earn himself a medal.  He earned his first high school XC varsity letter after this meet. Nate ran strong enough to earn himself a spot on our team's fastest top sophomore times list for the Springfield Invitational.  Nate ran a lifetime best despite the wet course at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 17:29 for a 17 second improvement.  He earned a spot on our team's fastest senior times list for the PND Invitational.  He beat 43 number 5 runners at this 72 team invitational showing that he would be in 43 of the top teams in the State varsity top 5 runners.  Nate placed 24th in a field of about 1000 runners in the open race.  This was the 5th highest finish of any Mahomet runner in the open race in the 17 years we have run on the course.  Nate ran a great race at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran in a pack with his teammates.  The four of them led the majority of the race and they won the team title.  Nate ran a season best of 17:28.  Nate's time earned him the 29th spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list at the East Peoria Invitational.  He earned a medal for his 6th place finish.  He showed he is an incredibly strong runner.  Nate also earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.  He earned a medal for being part of our State championship team.  He earned our team's scholar athlete award for his high grades.  He earned a spot on the final News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in December.
   As a junior, Nate came into the season more confident and with experience.  He worked his way to healing from an injury in the first half of the season.  Yet he still ran a strong race at the Charleston Invitational.  He ran a 18:18 to earn himself a spot on our top fastest junior times list for that invitational.  Nate was one of our top runners in the open race at the Springfield Invitational where he ran a 18:58.  He placed 15th in the open race to earn a medal.  Nate earned a spot on the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders list in September.  He ran a nice race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He had an amazing last half of the race.  He finished with a time of 18:38 despite the heat.  He was 3rd for our open team.  He earned enough letter points after this race to earn his second varsity cross country letter.  Nate earned our team's scholar/athlete award due to his great grades.  Nate ran a solid race at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a 18:22 which was a great time in the heat.  Nate ran an impressive lifetime best at the Metamora Invitational.  He broke into the 16s for the first time earning a spot on our team's 16 minute 3 mile club.  He ran a 16:56 to earn the 29th spot on our team's fastest junior times list at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a 7th for the team helping our team win the 29 team invitational.  Nate ran 7th for the team at the Conference meet helping them to win the meet.  He ran a season best 3 mile time of 17:29.   He earned a spot on our team's State meet roster for his junior year.
  He earned a spot on the News Gazette Area Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Nate ran a season best at the Regional meet with a 16:37.  He improved 19 seconds from his previous best.  He earned the 30th spot on our team's fastest junior times list at the Regional meet in 48 years.  He helped his team run the fastest top 7 runner average our team has run in the 48 year history of the Regional meet.  Nate ran his lifetime 3 mile best with a 16:46.  He helped our team win the Sectional meet.  He became a State qualifier in the process.  He helped our team run the 2nd fastest top 7 runner average in the 48 year history of the meet.  He earned the 31st spot for our team's fastest junior times list at the Sectional meet.  He earned a spot on the News Gazette Area Cross Country Leaders List in November.  Nate ran a great race at the State meet.  Despite the muddy course and thicker running crowds he still managed to run within 5 seconds of his season 3 mile best.  He helped his team win the State championship.  He earned a medal for being part of our State championship team.  Nate won our team's most improved award.  Nate earned All-Area honorable mention honors from the News-Gazette.
