Chase opened up his freshman year by running a 22:54 at the Charleston Invitational.  He finished 105th in the varsity race.  Chase had some great practices before the Monticello triangular meet.  During those practices he greatly earned the respect of his older teammates by his determination.  Chase ran a 23:57 at the Monticello triangular meet where he placed 49th.  Chase had a 30 second improvement in the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 22:24 to place 500th in the invitational.  He really showed a lot of guts in that race.  Chase had a tremendous personal improvement at the East Peoria Invitational.  He improved 1 minute and 38 seconds from his season best with a 20:46.  He helped his team place 4th in the fresh/soph race.  He showed himself to be a tough high school racer in this meet.  Chase had a great effort on a horribly muddy course at the Metamora Invitational.  Despite the course being slow he almost tied his best with a 20:53.  He earned enough varsity letter points to earn his first high school varsity letter.  Chase had one of the best performances for our team at the conference meet.  It was an incredibly slow course due to the hills.  Chase handled the hills better than the majority of our team.  He ran a 21:20.  He earned a spot on our team's State team roster his freshman year.

As a sophomore, Chase came in mentally tough.  He opened up the season at the Charleston Invitational with a lifetime 3 mile best of 21:00.  This was a 1 minute and 54 second improvement from his Charleston Invitational just one year earlier.  Chase showed tremendous improvement.  It is rare to see a runner improve almost 2 minutes in just one year.  Chase had another big break through at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He cut off another 36 seconds from his lifetime best to run in the 20s for the first time.  He ran a 20:24.  This was a 2 minute improvement from his last year's time at this same meet.  He ran with such great determination and helped pull his teammate along to their personal best as well.  Chase has shown himself to be quite a team player.  Chase ran a 21:00 at the U-High Invitational.  He ran fast enough to earn the 47th spot on our team's fastest sophomore top times list at the U-High Invitational.  Chase had a great race at the Metamora Invitational.  He broke into the 19s for the first time.  He cut off 32 seconds to run a 19:52.  He earned the 44th spot on our team's fastest sophomore top times list at the Metamora Invitational.   Chase finished his season by running a strong time on our very challenging course at the Conference meet.  He ran a 20:26.  This was a 54 second improvement from his last year's time at this meet.  Chase earned enough points after this meet to earn his varsity letter.
