2019 State Qualifier - alternate
As a Freshman, Caleb entered our program after being one of the top runners from his junior high cross country and track teams.  He was in the top 7 of his team in cross country and in the top two in track.  Our team was fortunate to get him.  Caleb really stepped it up right away.   He ran well over the summer and quickly adjusted to high school running.  He often showed as much guts if not more than our older runners in workouts.  He opened up his high school career at the Charleston Invitational.  In this varsity race he placed 63rd out of 146 runners.  He beat many junior and senior runners.  He beat half of the team's #5 runner which showed he would be the best on their team.  Caleb ran a 19:10 which earned him a spot on our fastest top times list for freshman.  Caleb continued to race well at the Springfield Invitational where we entered him in the freshman 2 mile race.  Caleb and his teammate established themselves in the lead pack from the start.  Caleb ended up beating some amazing runners to place 11th.  He earned a medal by placing so high.  He ran a personal best 2 mile time of 12:02 on a tough course.  His fast time earned him a spot on our team's fastest freshman times list at the Springfield Invitational.  Caleb earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Caleb ran a solid race at the East Peoria Invitational.  He placed 157th with a time of 19:48.  His time earned him a spot on our team's fastest freshman times list at the East Peoria Invitational.  Caleb earned his first high school cross country varsity letter.  Caleb earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  He earned a spot on the News Gazette Area Cross Country Leaders List in November.  He earned a medal for being part of our State championship team.

As a junior, Caleb joined us after having a great summer of training.  He ran solid in the first race.  He ran a 20:16 at the Charleston Invitational.  Caleb had a huge improvement in his second meet.  He improved more than anyone on the team with a 1 minute and 23 second improvement in one week.  Caleb ran a 18:53.  This earned him a spot on our team's fastest top junior times list for the Springfield Invitational.  His time was not only a season best, but a lifetime best performance.  He earned a medal by placing 14th in the open race.  He ran a conservative start to his race and passed dozens of runners to end up with a medal.  He was the top finisher for our JV team and helped our team place 5th in the meet.  Caleb had another breakthrough at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He cut another 58 seconds off his lifetime best to run in the 17s for the first time.  He ran a 17:55 which earned him the 40th spot on our team's fastest top junior times list at the Peoria Notre Dame.  Caleb earned enough varsity letter points after this meet to earn a letter for the year.  Caleb ran fast enough to earn a spot on the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Caleb ran a solid time at the Conference meet.  He ran a 18:24 on our challenging course.  Caleb earned a spot on our team's State series roster.  Caleb earned a spot on the News-Gazette Cross Country Leaders list for October.  Caleb stepped up for an amazing performance at the Regional meet.  He pushed the pace to help our team qualify for the Sectional meet.  Caleb ran the best race of his life with a 17:28 at the time we needed him most.  He showed great courage and loyalty as he ran beyond where he was trained to run through his great intensity.

As a senior, Caleb really stepped it up in his summer training.  He had his best summer training by far.  He ran enough miles to earn our 600 mile club award.  Caleb showed incredible leadership day in and day out all season in practices.  Caleb helped encourage and motivate his teammates even when he was exhausted and beaten down.  His strength of character to help others really benefited our team.  In Caleb's first meet he quickly took control of the race by getting his team to run in a pack to calm the new runners down.  It paid off as he lead his team to get a perfect score to win the Charleston Invitational open race.  He ran a 18:33 to place 3rd in the open.  Caleb's time was a minute and 43 seconds faster than he ran at the same meet just one year earlier.  His hard work clearly was revealed.  His time was fast enough to earn him a spot on our fastest top senior times list at the Charleston Invitational.  Caleb cut off 43 seconds in his second race to run a 17:50 at the SJO Spartan Classic.  His lifetime personal best helped him lead the open race with his teammate.  Caleb earned the runner-up spot in the meet.  He helped his team win the open race.  He joined one of elite milestones of finishing 1st or 2nd in a meet.  Caleb dominated the Urbana Meet Flight #6 race.  He won it with a lifetime best of 17:45.  Caleb has become one the greatest encouragers of his teammates of any runner I have ever had the pleasure to coach.  In workouts he ran as fast as 15:17 pace due to his great intensity.  Caleb ran a lifetime best at the Conference meet when he ran a 17:43.  He helped his team win the open race with a perfect score.  They went 1st through 7th place.  Caleb ran a 18:18 at the Monticello Invitational.  He helped his team win the open race.  Caleb won our team's team spirit award his senior year.  He also earned a varsity letter again his senior year.
