2019 State Qualifier - alternate

   As a freshman, Gage joined our team after being an All-State runner in junior high.  He ran enough miles in the summer to join our 300 mile club.  Gage had a tremendous first race.  He ran in our top 7 at the Charleston Invitational.  He ran a 18:50 to earn a spot on our fastest freshman top times list at the Charleston Invitational.  Gage earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  He ran well on a challenge Springfield Invitational course for his second race.  He ran a 12:21.  This was high enough to earn a spot on our team's Springfield Invitational Fastest freshman times list.  He placed 7th which was high enough to earn him a medal.  He has shown us he is one of the stronger runners in the State for his grade again. Gage showed great loyalty to his teammates by giving up an important band event to run for his team at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He helped push his fresh/soph team to a great team finish.  He ran a lifetime best of 1815 which was a 35 second improvement from his previous best.  Gage ran fearlessly at the meet and showed he is one of the stronger runners on our team.  His time was fast enough to earn him the 36th spot on our team's fastest top freshman times list for the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  Gage earned enough letter points after this meet to earn his first Varsity letter.  Gage ran 8th for the team at the U-High Invitational.  He broke into the 17s for the first time.  He cut off 36 seconds to run a lifetime best of 17:39.  This earned him the 9th spot on our team's fastest freshman top times list for the U-High Invitational.  Gage earned a medal for being the 2nd fastest runner from any team that wasn't in the top 7 of their team.  Gage ran 7th for the team at the Metamora Invitational.  He helped  our team place 3rd in the 29 team Invitational.  He cut off 17 more seconds to run a lifetime best of 17:22.  This earned him the 23rd spot on our team's fastest freshman top times list at the Metamora Invitational.  Gage earned a spot on the News-Gazette leaders list in October.  Gage ran a lifetime best on our very challenging course at the Conference meet.  He ran 5th for the team helping our team win the Conference meet.  He placed 12th in the meet.  He earned the 27th spot on our teams fastest freshmen times list at the Conference meet.  He earned a spot on our team's State series roster.

   As a sophomore, Gage had a strong summer of running.   He earned our 400 mile club award.  Gage had a fun and successful first race.  He opened up his sophomore year by winning the Charleston Invitational open race.  Gage had a great final kick to secure his win.  He helped lead his team to win the open race with a perfect score.  Gage's time of 18:23 was fast enough to earn him a spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list at the Charleston Invitational.  Gage ran in the varsity race at the SJO Spartan classic.  He represented our team well and helped our team win the varsity race.  Gage improved 50 seconds off his season best to run a 17:33.  Gage earned our team's most consecutive days in a row 3 month award.  Despite a tight leg, Gage ran at the Urbana meet.   He showed determination to run anyway.  Gage ran a 18:27 at the Conference meet.   Gage helped his team win the open race with a perfect score.  They placed 1st through 7th in the meet.  Gage finished the year off strong with a 18:28 at the Monticello Invitational.  He earned a varsity letter for the second year in cross country.  Gage won our team's scholar athlete award as a sophomore.
