As
a sophomore, John had a great start to
the season. He showed a lot of
guts at the Charleston Invitational
where he ran a 21:23. John ran
4th for our team in the open race at
the Springfield Invitational. He
helped our team place 5th
overall. He ran a solid time on
a very challenging course with a time
of 21:54. John had a major
breakthrough at the Peoria Notre Dame
Invitational. He had a lifetime
best of a 20:38. He improved 45
seconds from his previous lifetime
best to break into the 20s for the
first time. John showed great
mental toughness by running in the 19s
at the Metamora Invitational. He
cut off 1 minute and 10 seconds from
his best to run a 19:28. This
time was fast enough to earn him the
42nd spot on our team's fastest
sophomore times list at the Metamora
Invitational. John showed
amazing determination to run through
an injury at the Conference
meet. He ran his lifetime best 3
mile time of 19:35. John earned
enough points after the conference
meet to earn a varsity letter.
John earned a spot on the News-Gazette
prep cross country leaders list in
October. John won our team's
Brent Johnson True Grit award. As a junior, John had a major step up like we have rarely seen. He trained with passion. He earned our 900 mile club award. He earned our 1000 York Mile club award. He earned the title of captain his junior year. He opened his junior year by being runner up at the Charleston Invitational #5-6 flight race. He and his teammate dominated the race. John ran a 17:20 which was a huge improvement. He earned the #27 most improved over a career list with a 4:03 improvement. He earned a medal with his fast time. He earned a spot on our team's fastest junior list for the Charleston Invitational. John has shown his teammates how much a person can improve if he is determined. He has been an inspiration to his teammates and his coach. John rested due to an injury mid-season. Despite being injured he showed great team spirit by being one of the greatest encouragers of his teammates. John earned our team's most improved award. John earned a letter again his sophomore year.
