2019-20 TEAM NEWS The 2019 season starts Monday, August 12. If you are interested in joining the team, please email Coach Neal Garrison. He can be reached at [email protected]   IlMilesplit ranked our team #(not ranked) in the AA preseason preview. Ilxctf.com ranked our team #(not ranked) in the AA preview preview.  Our team was runner-up in the 12 team Charleston Invitational. We had 6 runners earn a medal. Nick Mies - 5th Kyle Nofziger - 6th Joseph Scheele - 7th Hayden Grotelueschen - 22nd Joe Taylor - 29th Josh Wilcoski - 35th  Our varsity team placed 6th. Kyle Nofziger and Joseph Scheele earned a medal by placing in the top 25. Our freshmen didn't have enough runners to earn a team score. Hayden Grotelueschen, Gage Williams, and Ben Wallace earned a medal by placing in the top 15. Our JV team placed 5th. Caleb Dowers earned a medal by placing in the top 15.  Our varsity team didn't have enough runners to score. Our fresh/soph placed 16th out of 79 teams represented at the invite. Kyle Nofziger placed 3rd and Joseph Scheele placed 23rd to earn a medal.  This invitational was cancelled due to weather.  Our team placed 2nd in this 14 team invitational. Kyle Nofziger placed 2nd and Joseph Scheele placed 3rd. Both earned a medal for their top 10 finish. Gage Williams earned a medal for being the 2nd fastest runner in the field not on a top 7 of their team.  Our team placed 3rd in this 29 team invitational. Kyle Nofziger placed 9th, Joseph Scheele placed 15th, Jonah Singer placed 32nd, and Nick Mies placed 33rd. All earned a medal for their top 40 finish. Joe Taylor and Hayden Grotelueschen ran in the 16s for the first time.  Our team placed 1st at the conference meet. Kyle Nofziger, Joseph Scheele, Nick Mies, & Joe Taylor all earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 10.  Our team placed 3rd in the Regional meet. Kyle Nofziger placed 4th to earn All-Regional honors. Our team advanced to the Sectional meet.  Our team placed 3rd in the Sectional meet. They advanced to the State meet for the 8th time in 9 years. Kyle Nofziger earned All-Sectional honors by placing 10th.  Our team placed 11th in the State meet. Going from an unranked team in the preseason to one of the top in the State was a credit to how much this team cared about each other throughout the season. Ryan Hodge - is attending Baylor University where he is majoring in engineering. He is part of their cross country and track and field team. Kyle Sheehy - is attending the University of Nebraska where he is majoring in economics. Nate Strigotte - is attending Parkland College. Garret Williams - is attending the University of Nebraska where he plans to major in a pre-health area. He will be part of the ROTC program. Callan Whitehouse - is attending Indiana State University.  Taylor Sebestik (2004) coached his Waterloo Jr High team to win the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Meet in 2018. He coached his boys to a 6th place finish. Taylor Sebestik (2004) is coaching at Waterloo Junior High. He has had a tremendous amount of success as a coach in the South Illinois Junior High School Association. In 2018 his girls placed 1st and his boys placed 6th in State. In 2017 his boys placed 1st and his girls placed 2nd in State. In 2016 his boys placed 2nd in State. In 2015 his boys placed 3rd and his girls placed 4th in State. In 2014 his girls placed 1st in State. In 2013 his boys placed 1st in State and his girls placed 4th. In 2012 his girls placed 2nd in State. 
 Brian Easter (1990) is coaching track at Champaign Centennial high school. His team earned the combined State trophy in 2018.  Brandon Smith (2004) is coaching at McDowell High School in North Carolina where he is a school counselor. His 2018 cross country team is pictured above. "Cross

Lisa (Klinger) Martin was a former assistant coach for both the Mahomet-Seymour High School boys and girls cross country programs in the 2001-02 season. She became the assistant XC coach at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High from 2004 through the 2010 season. Since 2011, Lisa Martin has been the head boys and head girls cross country coach at our junior high. In 2019 her girls placed 8th at State. In 2018 her boys team placed 8th at State and her girls team placed 14th. In 2017 her boys team placed 19th at State and her girls team placed 16th. In 2015 her girls team placed 9th at State. In 2014 her boys team placed 5th at State. In 2013 her boys team placed 7th at State. In 2012 her boys team placed 4th at State. In 2011 her boys team placed 4th at State. In 2009 her boys team placed 11th at State and her girls team placed 24th. In 2008 her boys team placed 21st at State. In 2007 her boys team placed 7th at State and her girls team placed 24th. William led his team in the Brissman/Lundeen Cross Country Invitational where he ran a 21:09. William ran 2nd for his team at the Regional meet where he ran a 27:08 to place 11th in the race. William became All-American by placing 30th in the National meet. He helped his team place 8th at the 2017 Nationals. In 2018 William ran in the top seven of his team throughout the season. Gabe ran 6th for his team and placed 9th in the 244 runner Midwest Intercollegiate Invite with a time of 25:31. His team is ranked #1 in the Nation for Division III. Gabe ran a 27:15 at the Principia College Invite. Gabe ran a 25:14 at the Conference meet to earn a top 10 spot on their National team. He won two invitationals his sophomore year. Andrew

Jake Mahaffey (2009) ran in the 2018 Run Run Rudolph Albuquerque, New Mexico Half Marathon where he won his age group.  Robert Beach and Julia Adams in the 2016 Illinois Marathon shortly after they first met.  Robert Beach and Julia Adams  Robert Beach (2004) has run in the Illinois Marathon, Peoria Marathon, and Indy Marathon with his wife. They ran together in the 2016 Illinois marathon within weeks of when they first met. They continue to run together and got married in 2018.  ADDITIONAL

Eric Mark Johnson (1975) got inducted into Mahomet-Seymour High School's Hall of Fame in September or 2017. He was part of the first group to get inducted. Hall of Fame Website  Garret Williams (2018) was awarded honorable mention honors as part of the 2017 IHSA All-State Academic Team 2017 IHSA Academic All-State Team List Mahomet-Seymour High School has only had 2 athletes in the history of our school earn this honor.
